The inspiration for this concept came as I drew mind map about children. From what I know, everyone has the experience of reading a storybook when they were still a kid.
At first, I thought of using several folktales which I used to listen to when I was still a kid. The folktales which were selected are Hansel and Gretel, The Little Red Riding Hood, and Snow White. All of those stories have one part which involves food and eating. After consulting with lecturer and some classmates, I discovered a better suited story for the idea: Goldilocks and the three bears.
Initially, I've never heard of this story before. Though, this story is actually very popular and well-known.
After some research, I was convince to use this story and started to do the initial sketches.
My plan was to reverse the order of the size of the items. Both mom and dad have normal size bowls (or chairs, or beds), while the kid's bowl is a lot bigger in comparison. The challenge was how to show the eerie part (kid's items are a lot bigger than parents') by variating the point of view so the series won't look boring.
Each items were drawn separately to avoid wrong sizing, because size is the key for this concept. I opted to use camera instead of scanner because I think when a pencil-drawn image will reflect the scan light (I don't know what's the proper name for it). Below are the original form of the image.
I was a bit confused with the kid's chair at first, and as you can see on the image above, I photoshopped the shape a bit.
The next step was to do the arrangements, including adjusting the sizes for each item.
From here, each of them was given colour and texture (paper texture).
To avoid confusion, I added a little text such as: dad, mom, and kid. And when they all finished, the last step it to add the tagline, logo and copy so that the ads delivers.
Overall this project was a fun experience because I got to use my illustration skill. Moreover, the concept itself is suitable (children storybook style).
