Kanekin is an independent media established in the year of 2014. They brought up the current lifestyle to the public, and mostly focusing on local products or trends. When I say local, I am refering to Indonesian.
I approach them via email, offering my illustration services. They responded positively and gave me a story to illustrate. The title is The Magic of Raindrops by Marcella Viona Legoh. The story itself is about a girl who misses her childhood memories. She end up experiencing some magical moments while trying to reach out to her childhood memories.
In total they asked me to do 4 illustrations for the story. I sent out the first 2 illustrations just to make sure if the art direction is right. Below are the initial sketch before I proceed to the digital format.
The first illustration is as below. This was the first draft, and I forgot a little detail, which is a round glasses (which I later added, you can see on the first image on top). The first scene shows three little girls playing under the rain and puddle of water, and the second is when the girl is enjoying her quality time with her family.
When they are okay with the drafts, I immediately proceed to do the rest, which is scene 3 and 4. In the third scene, one of the girls is shown hiding behind a tree, still quite straight forward in terms of story visualisation. While the last one is a bit more abstract to me; because in this part, suddenly the sentence became more poetic.
